Keep Your Bath Toys from Molding with This Trick

Children's bath toys are a cesspool of germs and mold. Even toys designed specifically for the bathtub have a tendency to mold.

Per the usual, we assume your child also puts everything imaginable in their mouth. Including the bath toys, you thought were clean (they are soaking in soapy water after all).

According to Kristy Miller, mold can start to develop in 24 to 48 hours. Because we find moldy bath toys disgusting, we want to share a few tips to help keep bath toys sanitary. Plus, we have a trick to keep your bath toys from molding.

Tips for Keeping Bath Toys Sanitary

  • Use a bath toy scoop with a mesh bag to let them properly dry after your little one is done scrub-a-dub-dubbing.
  • Keep your bathroom fan running for 15-20 minutes after bathing to help dissipate the humidity.
  • If your toys are already starting to form mildew, mix ¾ cup of bleach per gallon of warm water then soak the toys for 5 minutes. For a more chemical-friendly cleaner, use a ½ cup of white vinegar with a gallon of water and let soak for an hour.

Tip to Keep Your Bath Toys from Molding

Some bath toys have a small hole in the bottom or are manufactured to take in water and squirt. They are cute toys, but they collect mold – quickly.

Instead of spending hours cleaning your child’s bath toys, just to have them get moldy again, prevent water from getting into each toy permanently.

Our solution? Use a hot glue gun and glue each hole shut. It has worked incredibly well for us. Very rarely does the glue fall off a toy and we don’t have to worry about mold inside the toys.

Bath time should be a place for your little one to get clean, have fun, and explore – we hope you can use some of these tips to keep your bath toys from molding.
